Résumé

Average lifespan was c1 year but a few specimens reached 11/2 yr old. Parturition occurred principally in spring. Mean density was from 500 to 8000 individuals.m-² (yearly average 3500.m-² ). The abundance of the species seemed to be related to the composition of the substrate and to have been affected favourably or unfavourably by the aquatic plants. At first, a newly-arrived generation followed a random distribution but aggregation became stronger as parturition continued and as the newly generation aged.
